The purpose of the project is to foster research and academic cooperation between the two universities and to support the University of Dar es Salaam’s vision of becoming "a reputable world-class university that is responsive to national, regional and global development needs through engagement in dynamic knowledge creation and application".

The recent trend to view poverty as a ‘denial’ or ‘violation’ of basic human rights – concepts with both an ethical and a legal edge – offers a new type of grounding for poverty reduction strategies. It is unclear, however, what this actually implies in practice.

The aim of this study is to critically analyze how ethics and human rights is being, and may be, used to articulate the responsibilities of development agencies and their staff so as to guide and motivate their knowledge and policies.

The aim of the project is to analyze the consequences of the increased involvement of private actors in multilateral organizations. By 'private actors' we mean for-profit organizations, including corporations, business organizations and private foundations that are closely associated with them. 'Multilateral organizations' refers here to United Nations organizations and the World Bank.

Business' role in society has undergone a profound transformation in the last decades. Business is no longer a provider of goods and services only; it is also an important actor on the political arena.
