The role of business in society has undergone a profound transformation in the last decades. While business has strengthened its influence in global and national governance, business is also held responsible for a range of issues which were previously considered the sole responsibility of states. Rightfully or not, business is expected to contribute beyond legal requirements, both on the political and the corporate level, to issues such as climate change, human rights, child labour and environmental protection.
