Hickel is an economic anthropologist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Professor at the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, he writes regularly for The Guardian,  Foreign Policy, Al Jazeera, Current Affairs and other outlets. His most recent book is Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World (Penguin Books 2021).
