The Millennium Declaration recognised the vital link between good governance, development and human rights. The Post2015 debate has taken up this challenge and calls for a new approach that addresses the political as well as the technical aspects of development solutions. Such an approach could yield great benefits, but would require new ways of thinking about health and governance.
Several recent initiatives and reports have reflected on the challenges at hand and have proposed a number of solutions to the global governance dilemmas in the global public health domain. These reports are the Governance for Sustainable Development by UNDP, Health 2035: The World Converging within a Generation by the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health, and The political origins of health inequity: prospects for change by the Lancet - University of Oslo Commission on Global Governance for Health.
