At the meeting, the panel members agreed on a proposed mandate and set out the direction for their work in 2015. The topic of their first report will be the implications for health and the social determinants of health of trade and investment treaties, agreements, and negotiation processes.
The Panel members present at the meeting were: Desmond McNeill, Carolyn Deere-Birkbeck, David Stuckler, Ted Schrecker and Sakiko Fukuda Parr. In addition, Anand Grover and Alicia Barcena took part in parts of the meeting via videoconference.
Richard Horton, Editor of The Lancet was also present during part of the discussion on day one, giving his full support to the work of the Panel. Ole Petter Ottersen who is chairing the Advisory Board of the Panel did also come by to greet the Panel.
Sidsel Roalkvam and Ann Louise Lie from the Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM) were also taking part in the Panel's deliberations and helped to organise the meeting.
The next Panel meeting is scheduled for June 2015.
