About the project
This project addresses the following question: How and under what conditions can customer information programs influence consumer behavior and lead to more sustainable energy consumption?
Important research questions include:
- Which are the relevant factors for explaining energy use in the household sector?
- What barriers hinder more sustainable energy use (energy reduction and a shift towards renewable sources)?
- What are the effects of the power and emission disclosure scheme introduced through EU’s Electricity Directive on residential electricity consumption and choice of electricity product?
- Can the design of customer information programs affect residential energy consumption?
- How do attitudes, perceptions and willingness to reduce energy consumption differ between countries?
- Which implications can be drawn for policies aimed at reducing energy use and promoting shifts towards renewable sources of energy?
Duration: The project began 1. January 2009 and will run for 3 years until 31. December 2011.
Objectives
To understand how and under what conditions customer information programs may influence consumer behavior in a way that leads to more sustainable energy consumption. Specific focus/case: Electricity consumption in Norway and France and the effects of EU's labeling regime for electricity.
Financing
The project is supported by the Norwegian Research Council’s Renergi program.
