About the seminar
Much scholarship assumes that the idea of global institutions for development was post-1945 Western invention. However, Prof. Helleiner shows that the idea has deeper roots in China and other non-Western contexts. He highlights the importance of moving beyond Western-centric histories of global development, particularly as China emerges as a leading development donor in the current era.

About the speaker
Eric Helleiner is Professor in Political Science at the University of Waterloo in Canada. He has written extensively on global politics, politics of global finance, and the state and economic life.
