About the project
My project seeks to explore and analyze the challenges in reducing maternal mortality among the poor and marginalized population in Nicaragua. The projects sets out to explore the challenges and strategies adopted by the Nicaraguan government to address discrimination and inequality within health system, and explore how such strategies regarding maternal health meet the socio-cultural realities of the population at the margins. Despite international interest and commitments, echoed also at national level such as introduction of various policies and strategies, the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) remains high among the rural, poor and marginalized population.
