About the project
This is a collaborative project between the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC) and the University of Oslo to improve the understanding of the dynamics of inequality reduction in different contexts. The background for this is ECLACs recent research on the factors behind the historical reduction of income inequality in Latin America and its close dialogue with Latin American governments on how to deepen and ensure the sustainability of this trend.
These are experiences that are of interest also to other areas of the world, while current ongoing research at the University of Oslo on the dynamics of equality and inequality in Norway and elsewhere are viewed as important experiences to draw on for Latin American countries.
Objectives
The project will consist on enhancing research and exchange of research results across the regions, as well as foster new research on remaining issues of importance for the long term reduction of different aspects of inequality. The participating units at the University of Oslo are the Centre for Equality, Social Organization and Performance (ESOP) at the Department of Economics and the Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM). It is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
