New weekly column in Malawian newspaper

Prof. Dan Banik has begun writing a new weekly column on poverty reduction and sustainable development in Malawi's biggest national newspaper, The Nation.

The column, titled "In Pursuit of Development", makes the case for a more optimistic outlook on international development by discussing the experiences of Africa in general as well as in other regions of the world. By highlighting stories of programs, case studies and events that can be considered "promising", or even successful in improving the well-being of the poor and contributing to overall societal progress, Prof. Dan Banik hopes to enable readers to recognize successful development strategies and how these can be deployed in a range of international contexts, including Malawi.

- I am delighted to contribute this weekly column, which will give me a chance to disseminate research on poverty, development and governance to a wide audience. While I will often be writing on global issues, there will also be numerous articles on Malawi based on our research conducted with colleagues at Chancellor College, University of Malawi, under the auspices of the NORHED project, says Dan Banik, Director of the Oslo SDG Initiative.

The column appears in The Nation's Thursday print edition, as well as online.
